During the year, we have people who are preparing for the sacraments this Easter. There are those who are unbaptized, who are catechumens. Others, who are baptized, are called candidates. Lent is a special time - the Period of Purification and Enlightenment. This is a time of more intense prayer and preparation. The names of the catechumens were enrolled in the book of the elect on the first Sunday of Lent during the Rite of Sending. They were “sent” by the parish to our Cardinal who received them and they are now called the Elect.
These Elect will participate in the Rites of Scrutinies on the Third, Fourth & Fifth Sunday of Lent.
These special prayers for the elect are for strengthening in grace and virtue and for purification from all past evil and from any bonds which hinder them from experiencing the love of God.
Please hold our Elect in prayer. Also, please hold all those in prayer preparing for sacraments in the Easter season - our candidates, our confirmandi and those preparing for First Communion.
